In 2001 artist, photographer and filmmaker David Buckland founded Cape Farewell, an international entity that embeds artists, writers, architects, musicians and filmmakers with climate scientists. The ASK of the ‘creatives’ was to produce interdisciplinary work that highlights the acute challenges facing humanity through climate change. The notion that art can interrogate the future with rigor has become instrumental in the work of Cape Farewell, thereby enabling and inspiring the societal shifts required to engender a cultural response to climate change. Discounting the Future surveys a decade of artworks created by David Buckland for the Cape Farewell project, reinforcing the message that Climate is Culture.
